[A SIMPLE MATTER OF GIVE AND TAKE] Prologue + Chapter 1
Prologue:
0300hrs, Mindanao, Philippines
The hardest part of an assignment, Kite reflected, was actually dragging the target’s body back to the transport. Getting in was easy enough, and knocking the target out cold was even easier, but hauling an unconscious, fully grown man out on his own? Backbreaking.
“You’d think that a terrorist from a third world country would be thin,” he muttered with a small grumble as he made his way out of the encampment. The weight over his shoulders made walking through soft soil unpleasantly laborious, and Kite was silent except for the occasional grunts. Once he reached the more densely forested area surrounding the terrorist camp, far enough that the sweeping lights from the camp watch wouldn’t reach, he immediately became less tense. From there it was a matter of walking to his horse (or pony — Kite had never seen such a small horse), strapping the deadweight to it, and leading the mount down the mountain.
Five hours of carefully maneuvering them in the dark and two hours of better progress by daylight and Kite had just about reached the small town at the base of the mountain. He pulled out his phone from his pocket and dialed the number that would send the Organization helicopter to pick him and the bounty up.
